About Me

I was born in the Kootenays in Castlegar, BC, however have spent much of my life growing up in Vancouver. From an early age I was fascinated with tools and how I could use them to transform material. From building forts to making swords, I was always content with a hammer and nails in hand and a saw close by. Three decades later much has changed, though my desire to be curious, create, and explore remains the same.

My professional career began in 1998, working on world-renowned acoustic guitars. It was a wonderful experience that added to my understanding of wood and appreciation for fine craftsmanship. In 2001, I enrolled in the Wood Products Design Program at the Kootenay School of the Arts in Nelson, BC. My four years there were instrumental in developing a strong body of work that I continue to develop and expand upon to this day.

Since graduating from the Kootenay School of the Arts in 2004, I have displayed my furniture at multiple design shows in Vancouver, Kelowna, and Toronto. I have worked in millwork shops producing high-end custom cabinets, furniture, and millwork. During that time I have always continued to pursue my passion, which is my furniture. Thank you for stopping by. I hope you like it.

Cheers,
Michael Higgins
